If you’re like me, you’re always excited to see upcoming book to movie adaptations. I’ve been a fan of both, books and movies, for as long as I can remember. Many people like to argue about what’s better, but I believe that both versions have their own pros and cons. What’s your take on this topic?
Book to movie adaptations in 2025
Whether you’re a die-hard reader or a film fanatic, this year’s book to movie adaptations lineup promises unforgettable stories, star-studded casts, and plenty of buzz. Here are the most anticipated releases hitting screens in 2025.
The Housemaid
If you haven’t read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, don’t worry, you still have some time. The movie is expected to come out on December 25, 2025. What a perfect way to end your Christmas!
The Housemaid is a psychological thriller that became viral on TikTok and spent a year as a New York Times bestseller. It follows Millie, a troubled young lady who gets a chance to work as a maid in a seemingly perfect family. However, not everything is as it looks. The book is full of chilling and unexpected twists that haunt you all the way to the last page.
The novel is now being adapted into a feature film directed by Paul Feig, with a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine. The biggest stars of the show are Sydney Sweeney as Millie, Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, and Michele Morrone as Enzo.
Regretting You
Have you ever stopped to think about all the ways life could’ve been different if you had done one thing differently? Yeah, who didn’t?
Well, this book deals with regret. That awful feeling that clings to us and makes us overthink. Sometimes it’s about a love that slipped away, words left unsaid, and other times it’s about mistakes made in the heat of the moment. But whatever it is, it seems to stay with us – quietly, constantly.
The story follows Morgan, a mother who gave up her dreams to raise her daughter, and Clara, a fiery teenager who tries hard to make her own path. Their bond is tested with a tragic accident, which reveals shocking secrets about the people closest to them. If you love stories written in dual perspectives, this will be a real gem for you. This story about forgiveness, love, second chances, and trauma seemed like one of many great choices for book to movie adaptations.
So, don’t forget to prepare some snacks and enjoy this movie on October 24, 2025. These are the actors you can expect to see:
- Allison Williams as Morgan Grant
- McKenna Grace as Clara Grant
- Dave Franco as Jonah Sullivan
- Mason Thames as Miller Adams
- Scott Eastwood (undisclosed)
- Willa Fitzgerald (undisclosed)
The Long Walk
Francis Lawrence, yes, the director of The Hunger Games, decided to take on the project of directing The Long Walk. It’s Stephen King’s dystopian thriller, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1979.
The Long Walk is a psychological survival story (see the resemblance with Hunger Games, no wonder Francis chose this) set in a militarized future where 100 teenage boys are forced to walk non-stop. If they drop below four miles per hour, they are executed. The last person standing will win whatever they want for the rest of their life.
The film is set to premiere on September 12, 2025. The cast includes stars like Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, and the legendary Mark Hamill as the chilling authority figure known as The Major.
I can’t help but giggle when I hear that we’re getting another dystopian movie. Who doesn’t miss the era of The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, or Divergent?

From long-awaited fantasy epics to powerful contemporary dramas, these book-to-movie adaptations will have everyone talking next year. Be the first to hear about them!
People We Meet on Vacation
What’s your favorite trope? If it’s friends-to-lovers, you’re at the right place. Emily Henry’s beloved 2021 novel People We Meet on Vacation is making its way to the big screen, bringing the heartwarming story to you. The film adaptation is set to premiere on January 9, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
These are the actors who will play our fav characters:
- Emily Bader as Poppy
- Tom Blyth as Alex
- Jameela Jamil
- Lucien Laviscount
- Lukas Gage
- Sarah Catherine Hook
The story follows Poppy and Alex, best friends who have spent years vacationing together. After a breakup two years ago, they reunite for one final trip, confronting unresolved feelings and the complexities of their relationship.
Sunrise on the Reaping
If you’re looking for the biggest Hunger Games fan in the world, you’ve found them – it’s me, the writer of the Between the Lines and Frames blog. Whenever I feel like I can’t keep going, I just remember that the Sunrise on the Reaping is coming out November 20, 2026, and I suddenly get the strength to do anything. That’s how much I’m excited to see this movie!
This prequel, set 24 years before the original series, delves into the life of a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy during the brutal 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. We’ve already gotten the chance to read about this, but we gotta admit that these series are amazing as books and as movies.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed the original Hunger Games films, the movie stars Joseph Zada (yes, Johnny from We Were Liars) as Haymitch and Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird. The cast also includes McKenna Grace as fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, and Elle Fanning is back as Effie Trinket.
The movie aims to explore Haymitch’s backstory and the origins of some of the Games’ most iconic characters, blending intense action with emotional storytelling. So, what can fans expect to see? A visually stunning and emotionally rich expansion of the Hunger Games universe and one of the best book to movie adaptations of the year.

The Love Hypothesis
Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis is a charming romantic comedy about Olive Smith, a Ph.D. student who pretends to date a grumpy professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen, to convince her best friend she’s finally gotten over her ex. And just as you’ve guessed, what starts as a fake relationship quickly turns into something real. The book blends witty dialogue and heartfelt moments, which is one of the reasons for its popularity. The book became a New York Times bestseller and captured readers with its unique academic setting.
Fans are excited about the movie adaptation, and now we know it will come out in 2026. However, we still don’t have the exact date. All we know is that the filming started in July 2025 and that the main cast of this movie consists of:
- Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith
- Tom Bateman as Dr. Adam Carlsen
The movie promises to bring Hazelwood’s beloved characters and story to life with the same humor and heart.
Verity
When it comes to Verity, it’s the first book that had a scene that literally scared me. That’s why I’m really excited to see the screen adaptation. I hope they will transfer the eerie atmosphere that the readers felt. We will find that out on October 2, 2026.
The book follows Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a young writer who is hired to complete the remaining books in a successful series by bestselling author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway). Lowen is hired because Verity is unable to finish them after a mysterious accident that shocked their family. However, while staying at the Crawford estate, Lowen discovers an unfinished autobiography that reveals disturbing secrets about Verity’s past.
The cast:
- Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford
- Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh
- Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford
- Ismael Cruz Córdova
- Brady Wagner
